  • Historically speaking, it is hard to come up with a better female golf candidate than Patty Berg.

    Berg turned pro in 1940 after winning 29 amateur tournaments and was one of the most dominant golfers of the 1940s and 1950s, winning 15 Majors —a record that still stands among female golfers. A natural leader, Berg spearheaded the creation of the LPGA along with 12 other players in 1950. She was the organization’s first President, and as a testament to her influence, in 1979, the Patty Berg Award was created by the LPGA for the individual who exemplifies diplomacy, sportsmanship, goodwill, and contributions to the game of Golf.
