  • Before Bill Cowher got the job as Pittsburgh’s head coach, he proved himself on the pro level when he was Kansas City’s defensive coordinator for three seasons. It was a good resume, but Cowher was hired to replace a legend in Chuck Noll, who guided the Steelers for four Super Bowls in the 1970s.

Cowher’s run in Pittsburgh started in 1991, and like Noll, he held this job for a long time. Bringing a workmanlike ethos to the Steelers, Cowher's philosophy meshed with not only his players but their fan base. Running the Steelers for 15 seasons, Cowher's teams were in the playoffs for 10 of those years. Cowher reached the Super Bowl twice, losing Super Bowl XXX to Dallas but winning Super Bowl XL over Seattle.

Cowher resigned after the 2006 season with an incredible record of 149-90-1.

We are proud to nominate Bill Cowher for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
