  • Sport(s): Olympics and Baseball Executive
  • Statistics & Accolades: Member of the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame
  • For five years, Peter Ueberroth worked on the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics as the President of the Organizing Committee. While most of the Soviet Bloc countries boycotted, the games were considered to be one of the best runs up until that point, an undertaking that Ueberroth was appropriately praised for.

Ueberroth’s work on the Olympics propelled him to become the commissioner of Major League Baseball. In the five years he worked in baseball, revenue and attendance went up, and he fixed the wrongs by reinstating Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle, who was banned for working with casinos. He did, however, oversee the collusion, whereby baseball owners were working together to lowball talent in free agency.

We are proud to nominate Peter Ueberroth for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
