  • A long-time radio disc jockey in major media markets, George Michael was also entering the sports field by taking over as the weekend sports anchor at WABC in New York. As successful as he was as a DJ, his creation of the “George Michael Sports Machine” made him a national figure.

    The program was the originator of the rapid-fire sports program, which inspired multiple copycats that resonate to this day. In an era before the internet, Michael showcased sports that would not normally get national attention and, as such, gave recognition to athletes who would not normally be recognized outside their niche.
